The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine (COM) is a participating institution in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program. The VSLO program application service facilitates the application process for COM students in Phase 3 to apply for four-week away rotations at Host institutions.
The ability to participate in an away rotation for credit is dependent on the presence of a valid affiliation agreement with the host institution prior to the start date of the away rotation.
Students may participate in a maximum of three (3) four-week away rotations, view the Phase 3 Scheduling Policy.
Elective Types
When reviewing Host institutions' catalogs, it is important to take note of the elective type (e.g., clinical, research, etc.) to ensure that you are in accordance with the Phase 3 Scheduling Policy.
For UNMC COM purposes, away electives are split into two types based on the Host institutions' elective type in the Host institutions' VSLO program elective catalog.
- Away Clinical: Clinical
- The VSLO program Clinical elective type meets the UNMC COM criteria for a sub-internship rotation.
- Away Non-clinical: Clinical and Research, Hybrid, Observership, Public Health, Research
