ORL 720 OTOLARYNGOLOGY CLERKSHP 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

The student is closely involved with all facets of Otolaryngology. Evaluations of patients, diagnostic considerations and management approaches are emphasized. The student will participate in all the activities of the department, including all clinical responsibilities, operations, and formal teaching conferences. Activity-Hours/Week. Rounds-5. Didactic conferences-3. Independent learning-5. Research project-0. Independent patient care-5. Surgery-10 to 20.

ORL 721 OTOLARYNGOLOGY DISORDERS MANAGEMENT 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

This course is designed for those students who are interested furthering their knowledge in the specialty of otolaryngology. It is aimed for those who will encounter otolaryngology disorders frequently in their chosen field. It will include case presentations and the management of common disorders of ear, nose and throat. It will include pediatric as well as adult components of the specialty. The course will be conducted with didactic lectures, case presentations and independent study. Objectives:Develop an understanding of the common clinical scenarios in otolaryngology; Understanding the medical management and when to pursue surgical management of common clinical scenarios in this specialty;Demonstrate and communicate a detailed head and neck exam with the appropriate terminology. Evaluation will consist of attendance, participation in discussions, quizzes and demonstration of competency in a head and neck physical examination. Readings: selected journal articles, Bailey's otolaryngology text, AA0-HNS primary care otolaryngology, AAO-HNS clinical practice guidelines.

ORL 760 OFF CAMPUS ELECTIVE IN OTOLARYNGOLOGY 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

The student may choose to spend elective time in Otolaryngology off-campus. Opportunities both within Nebraska as well as other departments should be discussed and arranged with the approval of the Otolaryngology staff. An Off-Campus Elective Application form must be submitted for this experience. (See Off-Campus Elective Application procedures.)

Prerequisite:  Off-Campus Approval form completed.
