The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine (COM) posts senior/final level of medical school elective opportunities in the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program application service. The COM only extends elective offers through the VSLO program. Our VSLO program institution name is University of Nebraska College of Medicine.

Junior/Third Year Clerkships

The COM does not offer junior/third year clerkships to visiting students. 

Residency Programs

The visiting student must be at the senior/final level of medical school at the time of the proposed elective. 

The University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine (COM) does not accept applications from students attending:

  • foreign medical schools,
  • non-LCME accredited M.D. institutions, 
  • non-COCA accredited D.O. institutions.  

Elective rotations are four (4) weeks in length and are offered each month of the academic year. The visiting student will be expected to adhere to the COM rotations schedule and be able to attend all four (4) weeks of the offered rotation. Only one (1) rotation can be accepted per visiting student.

The COM does not offer two (2) week elective rotations. 

Only complete applications submitted through the VSLO application service will be reviewed for consideration. 

Applicants should not submit more than three (3) applications; this is for both electives and rotation dates. If one (1) or more application is denied the applicant can submit an additional application(s) for consideration, not to exceed three (3) applications.

  4. Immunizations Uploaded and verified by student health representation or physician
  5. Transcript Uploaded
  6. State and Federal Background Check uploaded; required background check searches:

    3. Global Report
    4. US Nationwide Criminal
    5. Sex Offender Registry
    6. Statewide Criminal
    7. Adult and Child Abuse Registry
    8. Office of Inspector General Sanctions
  7. Verification of Student Credentials (Completed by your Home institution)
    1. Student is in good standing
    2. Current HIPAA Training
    3. Current OSHA Training
    4. Current BLS
    5. Mask Fit test completed
    6. Medical Liability in the amounts of $3M aggregate and $1M Per Instance
    7. Passed USMLE Step 1 / COMLEX Score
    8. Completion of Core Clerkships before the start of any requested elective
