Resources for Behavioral Expectations of Students

 

 

Definitions

  • NU System – University of Nebraska System to include UNK, UNL, UNMC, and UNO
  • UNMC – University of Nebraska Medical Center
  • CAHP – College of Allied Health Professions
  • Practicums – The applied learning component of a professional curriculum where the student is performing the psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains of learning in a supervised environment. Practicums may also be referred to as Fieldwork Experiences, Clinical Rotations/Practicums/Education, or Experiential Learning.
 

NU System Responsibilities and Rights of Students

The Bylaws of the Board of Regents protect the rights of each member of the university community. Chapter V of the bylaws fully delineates the rights and responsibilities of students. This is also detailed in the "Board of Regents Bylaws" tab in the General Information section of the UNMC Course Catalog.

 

UNMC Non-Discrimination and Harassment

UNMC promotes equal educational and employment opportunities in the academic and work environment free from discrimination and/or harassment. UNMC is dedicated to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected and included.  This UNMC policy can be found in UNMC Course Catalog under the Student Policies and Procedures tab, “Non-Discrimination and Harassment Policy”.

 

UNMC Student Code of Conduct

Students at the University of Nebraska are members of an academic community in which academic integrity and responsible conduct are essential for the community to function. To ensure that students know what is expected of them, the University has adopted the Standards of Academic Integrity and Responsible Conduct (“Standards”). This UNMC can be found in the UNMC Course Catalog under the Student Policies and Procedures tab, “Student Code of Conduct”.

 

CAHP Practicum Performance and Conduct

During practicums, students in the College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) will adhere to the performance and conduct guidelines established for employees of the institution in which they are serving as well as the University of Nebraska Medical Center, CAHP, and program guidelines.

 

UNMC Privacy, Confidentiality and Information Security

It is the responsibility of all University workforce and business associates to respect the highest level of privacy for their patients, colleagues and other members of the University community. Disclosure and discussion of confidential information obtained from university records, either during or after employment or association with the University, is impermissible unless such disclosure is a normal requirement of a workforce position and has been authorized.

Students must observe the same principles of confidentiality as do staff and employees. It is the responsibility of all UNMC workforce, including students, to respect the highest level of privacy for their patients, colleagues, and other members of the University community, as is detailed in UNMC Policy No. 6045 “Privacy, Confidentiality and Security of Patient and Proprietary Information Policy”.

 

UNMC Dress Code Policy

All UNMC employees and students are expected to maintain acceptable standards of personal grooming, hygiene and present a neat, professional appearance at all times. Program Professionalism Standards

Students are required to follow the professionalism standards governed by their program of enrollment, as well as by CAHP. Students who do not meet their program’s standards may be dismissed from the educational activity, and disciplinary action may be taken as specified in the program requirements.

 

UNMC Substance Abuse or Dependency Standards of Conduct - Alcohol & Drugs

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) desires to provide students with a drug-free, healthy, safe and secure educational environment. Certain behaviors that impede academic performance and which may also endanger patients in the health care setting are prohibited according to the "Standards of Conduct for Employees and Students Regarding Alcohol and Drugs." Students enrolled by UNMC are expected to read this policy and be aware of the physical, psychological and legal consequences of substance abuse and chemical dependency. To review the Summary of Prohibited Behaviors refer to the UNMC Course Catalog, Student Policies and Procedures tab, “Substance Abuse or Dependency Standards of Conduct – Alcohol & Drug”.

 

UNMC Tobacco-Free

The UNMC campus is tobacco-free. This policy prohibits tobacco use on all indoor and outdoor properties owned and maintained by UNMC, including leased properties as well as parking lots.
