The M-ID 750 INTERNATIONAL HEALTH ELECTIVE provides UNMC College of Medicine (COM) students with an opportunity to learn about healthcare delivery in another country through an educational institution or clinical healthcare setting.

Students may arrange a four-week international rotation through the Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) program or directly through a global health program with pre-approval from the course instructor.

Students may participate in a maximum of three (3) four-week away rotations (click here to reference the Phase 3 Scheduling Policy).

Please note that M-ID 750 does not meet the UNMC COM criteria for a sub-internship rotation.

Approval and Scheduling Process

To allow sufficient time for review and approval, international away rotations must be planned well in advance. Applications submitted within three (3) months of the rotation start date cannot be approved.

Before submitting an international away rotation application, students must schedule a Phase 3 elective alternate (second-choice) rotation in OASIS. This backup elective must remain on the schedule during the review process.

Once the international away rotation application has been approved, the alternative elective may be dropped and M-ID 750 may be added during a drop/add period.
