ORTH 722 ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY 4 Credit Hours

SUB-INTERN

Student limit per team: Black Team (Hand and Upper Extremity)-1 student. Blue Team (Spine)-1 student. Gold Team (Adult Reconstruction)-2 students. Green Team (Trauma)-2 students. Red Team (Sports/Shoulder Upper Extremity/Musculoskeletal Oncology)-1 student. Faculty per team: Black Team-(Hand and Upper Extremity): Drs. Joseph Morgan and Dan Firestone. Blue Team-(Spine): Drs. Chris Cornett, Scott Vincent, and Emmett Gannon. Gold Team-(Adult Reconstruction): Drs. Kevin Garvin, Curtis Hartman, Beau Konigsberg, Beau Kildow, and Christopher Deans. Green Team-(Trauma): Drs. Matthew Mormino, Justin Siebler and Sara Putnam. (Foot and Ankle) Dr. Alex Sawatzke. Red Team-Drs. Matthew Tao and Justin Greiner (Sports), Drs. Matthew Teusink and Edward Fehringer (Shoulder and Upper Extremity), Dr. Sean McGarry (Musculoskeletal Oncology). Objectives: Learn clinical evaluation of musculoskeletal disease in outpatient setting. Understand basic principles of surgical treatment of orthopaedic conditions. Gain experience in management of orthopaedic patients in the inpatient setting. Become familiar with literature on one orthopaedic topic of interest and present "grand rounds" style presentation on this topic. Clinical Expectations: Student is to independently interview and examine patients in clinic. Present cases to staff in resident style. Minimum 4 presentations per rotation. Operating Room Expectations: The student is to read ahead and come prepared for cases. Student should be familiar with surgical approaches and anatomy specific to team and cases. Conference Schedule: Students will attend all resident and didactic teaching conferences. Students will attend five medical student focused didactic lectures, one for each service given by faculty members. Students will present case-based presentation on topic of choice to faculty and house staff. 10 min. max. General outline: 3 min. case presentation with images; 5 min. background and literature review; and 2 min. discussion. Rotations Offered: Each 4 weeks.

ORTH 723 PEDS ORTHO SERVICE 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

The purpose of this course is to introduce the interested student to the intricacies and problems associated with care of the child with musculoskeletal problems. Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery has become a unique subspecialty of orthopaedics, and thus those students interested in further study of the care of children and/or orthopaedics will find this rotation most beneficial. Activity-Hours/Week. Rounds-4. Didactic conferences-3. Independent learning-6. Research project-Variable Clinic-16 to 20. Operating Room-16 to 20. Rotations Offered: Each 4 weeks. Site: Children's Hospital

ORTH 760 ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY AND REHABILITATION AWAY CLINICAL 4 Credit Hours

SUB-INTERN

A rotation at another educational institution requiring entry through third-party application platforms (e.g., VSLO), often associated with an outside academic institution or residency program. Rotations Offered: Each 4 weeks.

Prerequisite:  An approved Away Rotation Application. Not open to visiting students.

ORTH 761 ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY AND REHABILITATION AWAY NON-CLINICAL 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

A rotation at another educational institution requiring entry through third-party application platforms (e.g., VSLO), often associated with an outside academic institution or residency program. Rotations Offered: Each 4 weeks.

Prerequisite:  An approved Away Rotation Application. Not open to visiting students.

ORTH 764 ORTHOPAEDIC SURGERY AND REHABILITATION OFF-CAMPUS PRECEPTORSHIP 4 Credit Hours

SUB-INTERN

A pre-arranged rotation occurring under the supervision of volunteer faculty not accessed through a third-party application platform, usually at a regional private clinic within the state of Nebraska. Rotations Offered: Each 4 weeks.

Prerequisite:  An approved Off-Campus Preceptorship Application. Not open to visiting students.

ORTH 799 RSCH ORTHO SURGERY 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE
