Doctor of Dental Surgery/Certificate (DDS/CERT) in Public Health Admissions Requirements

Admissions

All applicants to the dual-degree programs must apply and be accepted into each program separately. Participants must satisfy all posted entrance requirements for each program.

Students pursuing the four-year dual-degree option must apply for the Certificate in Public Health and successfully complete it before the MPH degree. Students pursuing the five-year option may apply directly for the MPH program.

Applicants can apply to each program concurrently. Alternatively, a student beginning the DDS, CPH, or MPH degree program may declare an interest in the dual degree program and subsequently apply to the other degree program after consulting with their current program director or the COD academic dean in the case of dental students.

Certificate in Public Health

Admission requirements are:

  • Completion of the SOPHAS Express Public Health application and submission of the application fee
  • Official transcripts reflecting an earned bachelor’s degree and all transcripts from previously attended institutions
  • All non-US transcripts must be evaluated by the World Education Service (WES) using their ICAP Course-by course evaluation service
  • Letters of Recommendation
    • One letter must be from a designated DDS program representative. Contact the admissions office for more details.
  • A one-page resume/cv
  • A one-page personal statement
  • All applicants whose primary language is not English or whose undergraduate degree is from a college or university outside of the United States are required to submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores.

The Certificate in Public Health requires 15 credit hours. Students completing the four-year dual degree option must successfully complete the Certificate in Public Health before applying for the MPH, in which all Certificate courses that meet the requirements of COPH Academic Standing (B- or higher) will transfer and apply to the MPH degree. The MPH degree requires 42 graduate credit hours if completed alone, including 15 credit hours of core courses, 12 or 15 credit hours of concentration courses (depending on concentration), 6 or 9 credit hours of electives, and 6 credit hours of experience projects.
