A student whose academic performance or professional behavior is below college of medicine expectations will be notified by the medical student evaluation committee.

Academic issues may include, but are not limited to, a poor or failing performance on a single examination and/or a poor or failing performance in a block, clerkship, or elective. Issues indicating a deficit in professional behavior would include those items discussed in the professionalism section of the medical student evaluation committee guidelines, HIPAA violations, and any additional concerns noted on a clinical evaluation.

The medical student evaluation committee will invite the student to meet with a subcommittee of the medical student evaluation committee to review the student’s academic performance or professional behavior and discuss expectations, approaches, and resources.

A notice of concern is an initial informal notice that will not become part of a student’s permanent academic record.
