Overview

The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP) focuses on the diagnostic reasoning, assessment, and management of the acute, complex, and life-threatening health care issues of adolescents through the elderly both in hospital and in clinic. The AG-ACNP performs and interprets advanced diagnostic and therapeutic interventions to diagnose, stabilize, and treat acute and complex conditions. They recognize patients in acute and complex health care settings who manifest health problems or changes in their health status requiring evaluation and treatment by specialty providers.

Career opportunities could include working in acute care and hospital settings, trauma units, highly specialized clinics, and emergency care.

NP credentialing - Graduates are eligible to apply to take the Nurse Practitioner board certification exam in this specialty.
