GERI 335 CARING FOR OLDER ADULTS: BEHAVIOR, ETHICS, AND HEALTH SYSTEMS 1 Credit Hour

This intra-professional course aims to introduce members of the oral health care team to a variety of behavioral science topics impacting the care of older adults (socio-demographic trends, behavior management, communication, person-centered care, health literacy, health promotion and prevention, and shared/informed decision-making); systems and policies impacting older adult health (long-term care, Medicare, and interprofessional team-based care); and ethical principles/professional responsibilities relevant to older adult care. Evaluation will assess the learner's "development of skills, behaviors, and attitudes needed for subsequent education and practice" involving geriatric populations, as well as "professionalism, ethical decision-making, and communication skills" (CODA Pre-doc standard 2-5).
