Students delaying graduation will abide by the requirements of their new graduating class unless otherwise approved by the Curriculum Committee.
Students will receive a doctor of medicine degree if they have completed two years of education at UNMC College of Medicine, are greater than 21 years old, possess good moral character, and have discharged all indebtedness to, and compliance requirements of, the University of Nebraska. The student must also meet the following requirements:
Phase 1
- Completion of all blocks with a grade of "Pass" per SEC guidelines.
- Pass USMLE Step 1.
- Complete eight Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE) visits.
- Take and pass the Comprehensive Clinical Skills Examination- Part 1.
Phase 2
- Complete Acute Care and Clinical Transitions Block and the required clerkships with a grade of Honors, High Pass, or Pass per SEC guidelines.
- Recorded completion of all clinical encounters and skills as outlined in the clerkships.
- Possess current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Phase 3
- Complete 9 electives (to include 3 sub-internship experiences) and the Residency Preparatory Course with a grade of Honors, High Pass, Pass or Marginal per SEC guidelines.
- Complete all requirements of the monthly Curriculum Enhancement Seminar series.
- Take and pass the Comprehensive Clinical Skills Exam Part 2.
- Possess current certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Register for Step 2 Clinical Knowledge examination.
The requirements of each Phase must be successfully completed per Student Evaluation Committee guidelines prior to progressing to the next Phase. In addition to the above, students are required to complete an annual survey on community and service-learning activities.
