In support of improving patient care, University of Nebraska Medical Center is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

The Center for Continuing Education assists the colleges and institutes of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Nebraska Medicine in providing educational activities for healthcare professionals throughout the state and region. While most activities are oriented to the practicing healthcare professional, students may find aspects of activities of personal and professional interest. UNMC students are invited to attend activities or portions of activities on a space available basis often at no charge. Students should inquire in advance if interested in attending an activity. The center also offers BLS, ACLS and PALS classroom and online courses. 

UNMC CCE Mission Statement 

Purpose 

The mission of the UNMC Continuing Education Programs is to provide specialized and interprofessional educational activities and support innovative research that facilitate individual skills and team-based performance that improves outcomes for patients and communities. UNMC’s continuing education efforts aim to enhance the knowledge, skills, attitudes, competence and performance of health care professionals, ultimately improving patient outcomes and community health.

Content Areas 

The content of the educational activities sponsored by the UNMC Center for Continuing Education include primary care, specialty and sub-specialty topics as well as other interprofessional development activities. 

Types of Activities 

The UNMC Center for Continuing Education, sponsors a variety of activities including regularly scheduled series, conferences, and enduring materials. The methods of instruction are varied to offer different types of learning experiences to appeal to diverse and individual learning styles and practice setting requirements. They include live conferences; virtual symposia; interactive audio, video and electronic activities; web-based self-study materials, and simulation. 

Target Audience 

The Center for Continuing Education sponsors a range of educational activities for primary care and specialty physicians as well as other health care professionals, including faculty trainees and staff at UNMC and Nebraska Medicine. 

Expected Results of the Program 

The goal of the UNMC Center for Continuing Education is to improve the competence and performance of healthcare providers and, when possible, to improve patient outcomes. UNMC CCE is committed to assessing the impact of its activities through qualitative and quantitative methods.
