Degree Offered
Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics (DND)
Degree Requirement
To earn the Doctor of Nutrition and Dietetics degree, the student must:
- Complete all courses with a passing grade
- Demonstrate attainment of all accreditation competencies as documents by specific assessment methods for each competency.
Length of Program and Location
The DND program will be offered fully online to meet the needs of practicing RDNs in Nebraska and across the U.S. The program of study requires students to complete didactic courses, a scholarly project, and a residency for a total of 48 credit hours. Didactic courses are offered in a fully online, asynchronous format. Residency experiences may be completed in the student’s home community under the guidance of DND faculty and an onsite mentor. If the student is unable to identify a residency site, the program faculty will work with the student to identify another suitable option to allow for successful completion of the program.
Full time students (defined as a minimum of 6-credit hours/semester) could complete the program in 3 years and part time students (defined as enrolling in 3-6 credit hours/semester) could complete the program of study in approximately 4-5 years. Students must complete degree requirements within the designated time frame established by UNMC, which is 7 years for doctoral students.
Admissions
Students entering a post-credential advanced practice doctoral program are expected to hold the RDN credential and to have earned a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of four years full-time post-credentialing work experience or a master’s degree with a minimum of two years full-time post-credentialing work experience.
Prior Learning Assessments
We recognize that valuable learning can take place outside the traditional classroom. This program considers Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) requests on an individual basis. Students may be eligible to receive credit for demonstrated knowledge and competencies acquired through work experience, military training, certifications, or other non-traditional learning. All PLA submissions are subject to faculty review and must meet established academic standards.
