NEUR 736 CLINICAL NEUROLOGY 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

This senior elective functions as a subinternship in clinical neurology and provides a view of neurology resident life while providing a fully supervised learning environment. This clerkship offers opportunity for participation in the management of acutely ill patients, working closely with supervisory residents and attending physicians. There is no call requirement, but a call experience can be requested by interested students. The rotation includes both inpatient and outpatient experiences, as well as attendance of weekly scheduled conferences.

Typically Offered: Each four weeks.

Visiting Student Information: Visiting Students are not to contact faculty or clinical departments prior to acceptance through VSLO. Doing so is considered a professional breach and may disqualify the student from being offered a rotation.

NEUR 761 OFF CAMPUS NEUROLOGY 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

Students interested in pursuing an off-campus neurology elective are required to work directly with the desired site to obtain the outside rotation offer. An off campus request must be completed in the department and with student affairs.

NEUR 790 CLINICAL RESEARCH ELECTIVE IN NEUROLOGY 4 Credit Hours

ELECTIVE

This elective offers students an opportunity to work under close mentorship from our faculty on clinical neurology research. There are many on-going and new projects available at all times. The student would be able to learn basic knowledge on clinical research. The learning program would be designed between the mentor and the student and then approved by the Elective Director (Dr. Torres). If you would like to participate in this opportunity, please contact your choice of the Neurological Sciences faculty. If you are not sure with whom you would like to work, please contact Student Coordinator, Cesar Hernandez to set up a preliminary meeting with the Clerkship Director, Dr. Torres to discuss your interests and review possible options. Students who have completed this rotation have had abstracts accepted at national or international meetings, presented posters, and even published articles. This opportunity is helpful to any students interested in research, and particularly to those students interested in pursuing a neurology-related residencies, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Neuropathology, etc.
