A student whose academic performance or professional behavior is below COM expectations will be notified by the SEC.
Academic issues may include, but are not limited to, a poor or failing performance on a single examination and/or a poor or failing performance in a block, clerkship, or elective. Issues indicating a deficit in professional behavior would include those items discussed in the professionalism section of the SEC guidelines, HIPAA violations, and any additional concerns noted on a clinical evaluation.
The SEC will request that the student meet with a subcommittee of the SEC to review the student’s academic performance or professional behavior and discuss expectations, approaches, and resources. This is an initial informal notice that will not become part of a student’s permanent academic record.
