This 4 week Dermatology Research rotation is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of Dermatology. This course has certain requirements that you must fulfill before you can proceed with research in the department. The first point of contact for this elective is the clerkship coordinator, Tammy O'Donnell tammy.odonnell@unmc.edu. Once you have spoken with the clerkship coordinator, you will be asked to contact the Dermatology Research Project Associate and the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. The Post-Doctoral Research fellow will help identify your research interests and potential projects within the department. You will then be asked to contact physicians within the department to inquire about working with them on a research project. All research projects must be approved by Dr. Megan Arthur. You will need to initiate this process several months in advance of your rotation to ensure that a project is selected and proper regulatory training and requirements for human research training have been met (CITI Training, added to IRB applications, etc). Students will work closely with their research mentor to find and answer clinically relevant, meaningful questions within the field of Dermatology that can be completed within the 1 month rotation. They will learn to critically appraise an article, apply evidence based medicine to real world patients and assist in advancing the field of Dermatology. In order to receive credit for this course, students will be required to attend weekly research meetings, attend monthly journal club, present their research findings, and submit a final manuscript.
