The IGPBS - Cancer Research doctoral program provides broad-based training in all aspects of cancer biology, equipping students to use cutting-edge experimental approaches to address the molecular basis of cancer, as well as the means of enhancing the detection and treatment of cancer.

General Requirements for PhD and MD/PhD students

  • Completion of coursework. 
  • Completion of the comprehensive examination.
  • Completion of a research project consistent with a PhD level of achievement.
  • Completion and successful defense of a doctoral dissertation.
  • Concurrence of the mentor and the student's Supervisory Committee.

PhD Curriculum

For graduate students who have taken post-baccalaureate coursework at other institutions, the IGPBS - Cancer Research Graduate Committee will evaluate that coursework on an individual basis to determine the extent to which it is equivalent to required courses. If previous coursework is determined to be equivalent, the Graduate Committee will exempt the student from taking the required courses.

MD/PhD Curriculum

Upon successful completion of Phase 1 of the College of Medicine curriculum,  MD/PhD students in IGPBS - Cancer Research must complete only the following courses.
